“Doug”
Pencil on paper
12” x 10”

Doug is on of my dearest friends and one of the most important influences on my identity as an artist. Through my friendship with him I forged an understanding of myself as a classicist and a modernist.

This little sketch done from life has some of the intensity of our youth and our days in my humble studio making art all day and most nights.

Around this time I had a friend who hung out at my studio a lot. His name was Doug Newton. He was smart and very talented. He wrote poetry and short stories and inspired me to draw. Sometimes we would just be informally discussing something and in a short time we were both creating new art.

Here are a series of drawings that were the result of a brief conversation about tuning forks. See where it goes.
